The Norwood Football Club has returned home to Adelaide last Wednesday afternoon after a rewarding training camp in Croatia.
The ten-day camp consisted of a multitude of training sessions, group exercises, AFL- hybrid games, and an inspirational match against both the Men’s and Women’s Croatian teams.
The Redlegs flew over on the 20th of October which saw a number of senior men and women players, officials and important guests gather to tour Croatia.
As one of our key values is innovation the Norwood community embraced the Croatian culture, participating in a number of team building activities all in preparation for Sunday’s games. Although the results were very one-sided in Norwood’s favour it was a great learning experience for our players and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Norwood Football Club in Croatia and throughout Europe.
The women’s side lead by Senior Coach Steve Symonds kicked 22 goals and six behinds for the match, not allowing the Croatians any time or space on the ball.
2018 Best and Fairest winner Monique Hollick was impressive booting six goals, while Lindsay Bigg had a big day also kicking five for the match.
The Lady Legs had nine individual goal kickers including goals from new recruits Jiarna and Rosette Zerella.
The men’s match was tightly poised at quarter time as the Redlegs lead by only seven points.
After that it was all Norwood and in particular League duo Lewis Johnston and Cameron Shenton who combined for 17 goals between them.
Saverio Trimboli, Paul Fantasia and Jeb Casanova all kicked two goals each.
After the match the Norwood Football Club and Croatian Teams had their presentations which saw Monique Hollick and Cameron Shenton both voted as best on ground by the opposition coaches.
After what was a highly rewarding trip for not only the players but staff and officials also, President of the Norwood Football Club Paul Di Iulio said the trip was something that epitomises the club’s values and believes the relationship between the Redlegs and Croatia will only continue to blossom.
“The coverage through Europe was amazing and the relationship the club has started with Croatia will only grow and benefit in the long term,” said Di Iulio.
“The opportunity to bind the Men’s and Women’s Team was phenomenal and strengthen another one of our key values, being inclusive.
“Two years ago we didn’t have a Women’s Team, now we have taken both our Men’s and Women’s Team across to Europe and expanded the breadth of influence the Norwood Football Club has on our great game.
“The trip was so successful that we have already starting thinking about our next trip and how we can further improve the experience and benefit to our playing group.”
The Norwood Football Club would like to thank Peter and David Tudorovic and their families for their amazing hospitality while being in Croatia.
