ALEX GEORGIOU, a selfless team player will join illustrious company when he runs out for his 150th match on Friday night against North Adelaide.
A consistent and professional performer in his own right, Georgiou has been one of the premier defenders in the SANFL for a number of years and continues to perform at the highest level each and every week.
“It means a lot,” Georgiou told norwoodfc.com.au.
“The Norwood Football Club is my home club where I have played all my footy since essentially 2004.
“It’s an honour to have chalked up 150 games for the club and hopefully we can get a win as we lead into the busy period of 2018.”
As a latecomer to football, Georgiou started playing at the tender of 13 for the Lobethal Tigers in the Adelaide Hills.
After playing a year there, Georgiou arrived at the Parade in 2004 as a 14 year old playing in the Under 15’s development squads. The tough defender, then progressed through the ranks in the under 17’s, 19’s and Reserves and since 2010 has been part of the league set up.
“In 2006 I played in the under 17’s with Norwood and I couldn’t really get a game, I only played about eight games that season, Georgiou said.
“However from 2007 onwards I pretty much only played at Norwood, I was part of the Under 17’s side, the under 19’s side and played one full season of Reserves football before cementing myself in the League side since 2010.
“I ended up at the Demons in 2014 only spent one year there before coming back to the Parade in 2015.
“So it’s a fair journey but I’ve loved every minute of it.’
Unsurprisingly, Georgiou nominates the Grand Final’s in 2012 and 2013 as his greatest memories to date playing at the Parade.
“The grand finals in 2012 and 2013 are obviously the highlights of my career,” said Georgiou.
“Playing in those games was something special but even the 2014 flag although I wasn’t part of the team that year.
“For me those three Premierships sit well and truly above anything else and hopefully we can add another one this year.”
