NORWOOD gun midfielder Mitch Grigg has enhanced his stature in SANFL history becoming just the 12th duel Magarey Medallist.
Grigg polled a total of 26 votes and was involved in a nail-biting finale along with Centrals Travis Schiller and South Adelaide’s Nick Liddle.
Grigg came out of the blocks early banking 14 votes after Round seven showcasing his magnificent start to the season.
After what was an amazing start by Grigg, he relinquished the lead midway through the count however came home strong with three votes against Centrals and Woodville West-Torrens. Partner in crime Matthew Panos was also influential in the voting, polling 18 votes to finish eighth overall.
The 25 year-old joins illustrious company becoming only the second ever duel Magarey Medallist in Norwood history. Grigg’s counterpart Gary McIntosh won back to back Magarey Medals in 1994-95.
Grigg now joins current counterparts in Sturt’s Zane Kirkwood (2014 and 2016) and South’s Joel Cross (2012 and 2015) in being a dual Magarey Medallist.
Grigg is already a Premiership player for the Redlegs and will look to continue his stunning form into the 2018 SANFL Maccas League Finals Series.
Grigg has been a vital cog in Norwood’s midfield alongside Matthew Panos, Matthew Nunn and Sam Baulderstone.
Norwood’s Number eight has added another dimension to his game in 2018, with not only his ability to find the football but also hit the scoreboard.
Grigg has averaged 28 disposals in 19 games so far and has booted 28 goals.
Measuring in at 182cm and 85kg, Grigg has now played a total of 103 Macca’s League matches and kicked a total of 87 goals.
After a terrific minor round season, Grigg was able to celebrate with his coaches, teammates and family last night at the Adelaide Oval.
