Port Adelaide vs Norwood FC Preview

The Norwood Football Club travel to Alberton on Sunday afternoon to face one of their oldest rivals in Port Adelaide in Round 17 of the SANFL Maccas League.

In what is shaping up to be a mouth-watering contest, both sides will be hungry to collect the points on offer in order to press their claims of a top three finish.

Earlier in the year, the Magpies defeated Norwood in a classic at the Parade with Robert Young kicking the match winner in the dying seconds, handing Norwood their first loss of 2017.

The Redlegs will be out for redemption this week, especially after falling to a heavy defeat last weekend against Centrals.

Head Coach of Norwood FC, Jarrod Cotton ensured that side is raring to go and is looking forward to the challenge of facing the Magpies on their home deck.

“After a disappointing result on the weekend our aim is to get back to the basics of how we want to play and what works for us as a football team,” Cotton said.

“We’ve played some really good footy this year on the back of those key fundamentals, so we are eager to correct ourselves at Alberton this Sunday.

“The group overall are looking forward to the match, obviously Port and Norwood are great traditional rivals so there’s no better place to go and play to get us back on track.”

Cotton also highlighted how important it was for Norwood to get off to a good start on Sunday, knowing how fiercely contested the match will be right from the get go.

“It’s good to go to Alberton and obviously aim to put your foot down early to make sure that you get off to a good start,” Cotton said.

“We will definitely be focusing on a good start, but you have to play over four quarters and not just the first.

“So, we will make sure that we are consistent and well measured over the four quarters, if we can execute that it will go a long way in helping us get the points.”
