Norwood’s talented small forward Simon Phillips said he is feeling refreshed and ready to play a vital role for the Redlegs in 2018.
Buoyed by injuries in both 2016 and 2017, Phillips has returned to training in great shape hoping to get back to his natural best in 2018.
The Triple Premiership Player has spent a lot of time in the gym over the preseason and hasn’t missed a beat at training thus far.
Phillips’ genuine hunger for the football and keen eye for goal, will be an added bonus to the Redlegs forward line this year.
“I’ve come back day one of preseason pretty much fit,” Phillips said.
“We (Coaching/Fitness Staff) have monitored my first few weeks pre-Christmas in terms of watching my loads just to make sure the quad is feeling good.
“What we have managed to do is effectively make the most of the sessions thus far, ensuring we don’t push it but we become smart about what’s best for me.
“In saying that it’s mid-January now and I am feeling pretty good, I’m not too far away from my best preseason since 2014.”
Looking into the 2018 SANFL Maccas League Season, Phillips is aiming to gain continuity in his football ensuring he does his bit to bring an elusive 31st Premiership to the Parade.
“Personally for me it’s about getting to all the sessions and finding some continuity in my football,” Phillips explained.
“One of my biggest goals is to make sure I get everything done from a training perspective, in hopes I can hit the ground running come Round One.
“I’ve only missed one session so far this preseason to date and I think that’s the key, the older you get it’s not about working harder it’s about working smarter.
“Working smarter means doing everything, it’s not about doing less and using your body as an excuse.
“It’s about doing everything, but making sure that when you do it you get the most out of every session to give yourself the best possible chance of playing.”
