The Norwood Football Club kicks off its 2018 SANFL campaign against Sturt on Easter Monday at Coopers Stadium.

Norwood will celebrate their 140th year in 2018 and will look to secure a win early against the reigning premiers.

After a long gruelling pre-season, Norwood FC head-coach Jarrod Cotton admits his side is ready to showcase their hard work which has been put into practice since early December.

“I think the whole clubs excited about the opportunity to play the first game,” Cotton said.

“It’s been a really long pre-season, but the players have really improved over that time and have shown some very good signs in the trial games as well.

“We’ve practiced a lot of things over the summer, but now it’s time to roll it out and put it on show.

“I think everyone at the club from the players, coaches and staff are all really excited about it.”

The Redlegs go into the match full of confidence, after bringing in some strong recruits over the summer.

Cotton also mentioned that the intensity of the Round 1 match will be high, knowing that Norwood will need to bring their very best in order to defeat last year’s Premiers.

“The match itself is definitely going to go up a couple notches being a real game, and we are fully aware of that and the players are also,” said Cotton.

“In regards to the game style which we want to play, it’s going to be the same just the intensity will lift and we need to be prepared for that and understand that Sturt are going to come here to win.

“It should be a fantastic contest and hopefully we can start well with the two points.”
