NORWOOD has recorded its eighth win in a row after defeating Adelaide by 51-points at the Parade on Saturday afternoon.
In the 2018 edition of the Count Me in Round, the Redlegs put on a show in front of a strong crowd gathered to raise awareness for those suffering from Motor Neuron Disease. After losing Past Player Damien Lane from the disease last year and now seeing Mitch Grigg’s father Chris being diagnosed earlier this year it was special day for the entire Norwood community.
In what was a tightly game early, Norwood held their nerve to pile on six goals after half time to increase the margin beyond Adelaide’s reach.
Former Crow Anthony Wilson kicked a game high three goals for the Redlegs, while Lewis Johnston accumulated 35 disposals and a goal.
Emerging midfielder Matthew Nunn continued his rapid development in the centre square to finish with 32 disposals and seven tackles while experienced heads Mitch Grigg, Matt Panos and Cam Shenton all continued their excellent form.
In what was a similar affair as their Round 5 meeting, Norwood proved to be inaccurate in front of goal giving the visitors hope with the margin being only 15-points at halftime.
Adelaide Crows listed players Rory Atkins and Sam Gibson were amongst the Crows best, while dominant midfielder Patrick Wilson had game a high 31-disposals.
The Legs had 96 more disposals, 14 more inside 50s and tellingly, 15 more tackles.
Adelaide began the game brightly, with left-footed Rory Atkins booting two goals – one a nice snap over his right shoulder – to help his side earn a six-point lead at the first change.
Norwood after quarter time began to control proceedings registering the first 7 scoring shots of the quarter.
The Redlegs managed to kick five of the seven goals opening up a much needed 27-point lead.
The Crows however, found a couple of goals in the shadows of halftime to find themselves only 15-points down.
Norwood needed a fast start in the third and got one through Cameron Shenton who kicked truly for his first of the match.
Despite the Redlegs controlling possession of the ball, they found themselves wasteful yet ahead by 24 points heading into the final change.
With crowd on their side Wilson managed to steal the show booting three goals in the final term to help hand his side a 51-point win in ‘Count Me in Round’.
