NORWOOD has produced one of their best wins of the season defeating Sturt at Peter Motley Oval by 54-points on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing the Double Blues at every change and by 24- points at three-quarter time, the Redlegs produced a stunning quarter of football which saw them kick 13-goals to record their ninth win in a row.
The last quarter went for a staggering 34 minutes and it’s fair to say every one of the Norwood fans were loving every second of it as Anthony Wilson – celebrating Indigenous Round – got things rolling with the first goal after the final change.
Inspirational Captain Jace Bode gave Norwood the perfect start as he kicked a long running goal to give the travelling faithful something to cheer about early.
Sturt then settled to kick the next five goals of the contest to lead by 27-points at the first change.
Norwood dominated the start of the second term however weren’t able to apply any scoreboard pressure kicking seven behinds in a row.
Clever small forward Declan Hamilton booted two of his four goals in the mid-way through the second term while hardman Will Abbott kicked his first of the match just on 24 minutes.
The Norwood fans were then in for something special as key defender Alex Georgiou received the ball from the middle of the ground took two bounces and unleashed a 60-metre goal to spark some life into the Redlegs.
The Double Blues then capitalised on the breeze at the Northern End of Peter Motley Oval booting three crucial goals at the end of the third term to set up a 24-point lead heading into the final term.
Wilson kicked the first for Norwood inside the first minute and from then Norwood were able to silence the home supporters with a flurry of goals.
One of the best goals of the term came seven minutes in when Panos successfully crumbed the ball and wheeled around on his right to put the Redlegs level.
Within this period alone, the inside 50 count was 13-2 in Norwood’s advantage as the Legs dried up the hosts’ scoring opportunities to the point they could manage just one behind – to Hugo Munn in the 23rd minute – for the last stanza.
Clever small forward Declan Hamilton booted another two of his four goals in the rampage, the first a nice bouncing ball along the ground after weaving through two Sturt defenders before putting the icing on the cake with the final major of the game in the 32nd minute.
Sam Baulderstone was enormous for the visitors amassing 32 hit-outs to go with his 21-disposals, Mitch Grigg was back to his Magarey Medal best in chalking up a game-high 34 disposals while fellow centre-square warriors Matt Nunn and Matt Panos exceeded 20 possessions.
Norwood will now turn their attention to Friday night as they face the Bloods in Round 15 of the SANFL Maccas League.
