NORWOOD has succumbed to its first loss since April after falling to South Adelaide by 26-points at Hickinbotham Oval on Sunday afternoon.

In a game which was delayed for more than 20 minutes in the third term following a head knock to South’s Tyson Brown, the Panthers were able to continue the momentum piling on eight second half goals to sink the visitors.

The Panthers were understandably shaken by the scene of seeing their team-mate driven out of the Noarlunga ground in an ambulance as Norwood trimmed the margin to three points with the first two goals upon the resumption.

Mitch Grigg kicked one of the goals of the game midway through the Premiership quarter after executing a perfect banana, before Simon Phillips made the most of his set shot from 45-metres.

The Redlegs without Matt Panos who was rested with a minor foot complaint got within 15 points when Peter Bampton converted from distance six minutes into the fourth quarter.

The Panthers response was imminent as Nathan Kreuger and Tom Fields replied with goals 15 minutes apart to cement the win for South.

Classy midfielder Matthew Nunn continued to impress with 26 disposals seven marks and a goal, while Brad McKenzie was a standout in defence with 24 touches and 10 marks.

Despite being challenged for most of the match Norwood showed positive passages of play, however weren’t able to ultimately reward themselves on the scoreboard.

Debutant Darcy Pisani showed positive signs in first official match in the red and blue. Pisani had 13 disposals and six tackles playing on ball for majority of the match.

Young forward Luke Surman have the Redlegs a focal point up forward booting four goals for the match, while Simon Phillips was the other multiple goalkicker with two.

The Redlegs will now make the most of a valuable week’s rest before contesting the Second Semi-Final on Sunday September 9.
