The Norwood Football Club has recorded its first win of the 2018 SANFL Season, with a comprehensive 47-point victory against South Adelaide at Coopers Stadium.

After falling marginally to Sturt in Round One, Norwood responded terrifically in front of their home faithful kicking 11 goals after half time to claim the points on offer.

In hot conditions, the Redlegs started the match in control with contested ball and tackle pressure being a real focus.

Gun midfielders Mitch Grigg and Matthew Panos set the tone for the Redlegs with their ability to find the ball inside to generate centre clearances.

2014 Jack Oatey Medallist Panos kicked the first of the match, after snapping on his right to give the hosts an early lead inside five minutes.

South soon after started to gain momentum as Nick Liddle and Connor Fairlie kicked truly giving the visitors a slender seven-point lead midway through the first term.

New recruit for Norwood Caleb Edmead was rewarded for his efforts straight after kicking two in two minutes to hand Norwood a six-point lead at quarter time.

The Panthers started the second term on top however, missed some opportunities to capitalise kicking just the one goal and four behinds.

The Redlegs made South Adelaide pay, as they kicked four of the next five to giving them a 17-point lead at the main break.

After the restart Norwood came out of the blocks early getting their hands on the football first through the dominant midfield of Grigg, Panos, Bampton and Nunn.

With help from dominant ruckman Sam Baulderstone, Norwood created many chances from stoppage.

The Redlegs lifted as a whole gaining the better of the clearances, (41 clearances to 29) disposals (248 disposals to 190) and marks (122 marks to 76).

Despite Cross and Brooksby giving the hosts something to cheer about, Norwood responded well kicking four un-answered goals towards the end of the third quarter.

Matt Nunn’s goal however stood out, after a lovely transition move by the Redlegs saw their quick ball movement on show to allow Nunn to stroll inside 50 to extend Norwood’s margin by 41-points at three quarter time.

Although South were down by quite a margin the visitors started the last term well with Cross and target man Sam Overall kicking early goals to reduce the deficit to 29-points.

In what seemed to be a slow start by the Redlegs in the final quarter, Norwood quickly responded piling on an extra four goals to complete a 47-point rout of the Panthers.
