Our Round 7 match saw us face Sturt FC for the very first time in the SANFLW competition.
Sturt have a young squad with plenty of promising talent, who if given time and space can be damaging.
Lately, we have been disappointed with our in-ability to kick higher scores over recent weeks and went into this game with a few tweaks to try and assist our offensive capabilities.
These tweaks appeared to work as our ball movement appeared much more effective, which resulted in us having 17 shots on goals.
We again held firm defensively only allowing the opposition 12 Inside 50’s and three scoring shots for the game.
Our intensity at the contest was back to the trademark level we are aiming, with us having 24 more contested possessions and 22 more tackles than the opposition.
We are at our best when we are hunting in numbers at the contest and last weekends game showed signs of us getting back to that level.
It was pleasing to finally get rewarded on the scoreboard to run out winners by a solid margin of 44-points.
It was great to see some of our younger players starting to really step up at this level. Matilda Zander finished with three goals and Ebony O’Dea finished 19 disposals, both showing their promise and capabilities. Consistent performer Monique Hollick continued her great season form with 22 disposals.
Leah Cutting and Whitney Benson both stepped in as co-captains for the injured Bek McMahon and both provided strong leadership and lead from the front with strong performances.
We now look forward to a big game against North Adelaide. With both teams sitting equal second and only percentage separating them, this game looms as one of the games of the season.
