Our Round 8 Game v North Adelaide loomed as the battle for 2nd position on the ladder. With only percentage separating both teams, the winner of this encounter would secure a position in the finals series.

Going into the game we were fortunate enough to have Sally Riley from the Crows AFLW team made available to us. Sally has played a couple of couple for us thus far this season and provides great leadership and ball winning ability to our team. The unfortunate side of things is our other AFLW listed players have not been released back to us for the last past of the season which was not what we were expecting.

Whilst we still have a few current injury issues, we went into the game confident of a good performance after showing promising signs the week before. Consistency has been our major stumbling block this season and we again didn’t back up our previous weeks performance.

Quite simply we didn’t adapt to the size of Hickinbotham Oval combined with a very strong breeze. Our skill level wasn’t up to the standard required in the conditions, as we continually turned the ball over and couldn’t control possession or territory. North were dominant in contested ball (An area we generally pride ourselves upon) and controlled the ball territory. Our in-ability to be able to transfer the ball from one end to the other resulted in us being held scoreless for the game.

The margin of the loss was kept to a reasonable level on the back of our defensive work and our willingness to continue to apply pressure to the opposition. North ended up running eventual winners by 34 points.

Better players were hard to find this time around but Whitney Benson, Monique Hollick and Rhiannon Busch continued their consistent season form.

It was a disappointing not to be able to convert our endeavour into scoreboard reward but the group fully understand that we need to continue to improve our ball method and decision making under pressure.

As an in-experienced group we are still very inconsistent in these areas. We get the opportunity to bounce back and find some rhythm in our next clash against Sturt at the Parade.
