Round 2 v West Adelaide

After a good first up performance in Round 1 the girls were looking forward to backing up again. Our Round 2 clash being against West Adelaide was going to be tough as they were also coming off of a very good win in Round 1.

We welcomed three new additions to our team with Ashlee Gould, Lisa-Jane Drefke & Kayley Pearson. Lisa-Jane makes the commitment of travelling from Barmera for trainings and games. Ashlee is a young member of our squad and comes from a basketball background with only a handful of games of experience. Kayley was a young member of our 2017 squad who continues to improve each week.

The game never reached great heights as a spectacle as both teams were defensively strong and both applied high pressure football across the ground. What the game lacked as a spectacle certainly made up for in intensity as the attack at the ball and on the player was ferocious and continued all the way to the final siren.

The match was even in all statistical areas throughout each quarter and in the end West Adelaide just did a little better at the right times to get their nose over the line to record a 12- point win.

Whilst our endeavour was there, we were disappointed in the way we played as Westies never allowed us to get our game up and going.

As a new group we are still trying to gel and find cohesion. We struggled under both the pressure of the match and from the opposition to have the composure to think our way through situations.

Our inability to maintain possession causing us to get no flow in our game and providing many turn over opportunities for the opposition. Composure will be a big focus for our group over the next few weeks.

This game how ever has provided us some great learning’s which will put us in good stead moving forward. We look forward to putting some of these learning’s in place this week in our Rd 3 clash against Glenelg at home. The Crows AFLW team are playing after our game so there should be a good size crowd & atmosphere present.

We are very much looking forward to it.
