The Norwood Football Club is excited to announce the signing of Mitch O’Neill from the South Adelaide Football Club.
O’Neill has played 49 SANFL matches with the Panthers over the past three seasons, and was before that listed on the West Coast Eagles AFL list in 2020 – drafted out of the Tasmania Devils via the 2020 Rookie Draft (Pick 25).
He played all 18 SANFL matches with South in 2023, averaging 24 disposals, six tackles, five clearances and 96 ranking points.
O’Neill has led the club’s Magarey Medal votes for the past two seasons and represented South Australia in the 2022 State game against Western Australia.
Norwood coach Jade Rawlings said he was delighted to sign a player of O’Neill’s calibre to the club’s 2024 senior list.
“Mitch is a quality player,” Rawlings said.
“He is a high level competitor and established a really good level of performance over the past three years in the competition.
“He is a really good young man and it is pleasing that he sees his future at the Norwood Football Club moving forward.
Rawlings said he had been impressed with O’Neill’s output at South.
“He’s an inside mid and been a permanent fixture of South Adelaide’s midfield over the past few years, playing at a really high level,” Rawlings said.
“He has a high level of conditioning and he’s a great contest player.
“There are a lot of parts of his game that complement the way we play.”
The club welcomes Mitch and his partner Sophie to Norwood.
This news follows the club’s re-signing of key players Harry Boyd, Jackson Callow, Jacob Kennerley, Jack Saunders and Declan Hamilton.
