Norwood Eyre Peninsula Junior Football Academy

Norwood Football Club Coaches and Talent Managers travelled over to Port Lincoln (the club’s regional zone) last week to continue its work with the Norwood Eyre Peninsula Junior Football Academy.   

More than 50 boys from across the Eyre Peninsula attended the Junior Boys Academy Session at Centenary Oval in Port Lincoln on Sunday, which was ran by Norwood U18 Coach Alex Newell and Talent Manager Craig Roberts.

This session was aimed at those within the U16 and U18 age group, and targeted at those who are looking to make the next step of representing Norwood’s junior teams in 2024.

The boys underwent a 2km time trial, before carrying out a two-hour training session (similar to what Norwood’s U18s have been put through in Adelaide).

Post session, Newell led an education session which focussed on football structures, terminology and watching video footage.

These Junior Boys Academy Sessions will be run once a month in various locations around the Eyre Peninsula.

Recently retired Norwood SANFLW Captain (and the club’s 2024 SANFLW Development League Coach) Alison Ferrall, and Norwood Senior Squad Member Emily Newton ran a Junior Girls Academy Session in Port Lincoln on Saturday.

About 20 girls between 13 and 19 years old attended the session in Port Lincoln, which was aimed at identifying talent and educating junior footballers on the pathways to the SANFLW and the requirements of a SANFLW player.

The Girls Academy training session included a fitness aspect, as well as a skills and football craft session.

These sessions will run once a month in Port Lincoln to provide valuable and ongoing training and support throughout their football season.

These Academy Sessions also assist the Norwood Football Club in selecting its team for the Youth Carnival in October 2024, as well as identifying talent for its SANFLW Senior Program.

The club would like to thank the Port Lincoln Football League for providing ovals and lunch throughout the weekend.
