NFC Senior Men

Three more Tasmanians heading to The Parade

Jack Aherne has joined the Redlegs over this offseason.

Norwood has added three more Tasmanians to the Senior Men’s list, welcoming Jack Aherne, Mitch Nicholas and Khalen Matthews.

All three each hail from Tasmanian State League club North Launceston, where Aherne and Nicholas played in the Bombers TSL 2024 undefeated Premiership.

The 20-year-old medium size forward Aherne played 18 TSL games in 2024, kicking 21 goals.

Also 20 years old is Nicholas, who played 15 TSL matches for  the Bombers in 2024, as a running defender, and was a big part of the Tasmania Devils make-up during 2022 and 2023. He played 20 Coates League Matches as a junior.

Matthews enjoyed a strong U18 season in 2024, playing seven TSL matches for North Launceston, kicking 14 goals, including five goals on League debut against Glenorchy.

Norwood General Manager of Football Richard Kelly welcomed Jack, Mitch and Khalen to the club.

“The boys started training with Norwood during the pre-season prior to Christmas, and they have fit right in,” he said.

“We believe they can add a lot to our program, again strengthening the depth of our midfield, forward line and defence.

“We have had great success in recruiting quality players from Tasmania, and it helps that Mitch, Jack and Khalen already know each other through their North Launceston connection. It just helps the transition to life in Adelaide easier.”

The club hopes to make further announcement over the course of this week.
