2024 Wheelchair Team

Head Coach: David Gould

David Gould

Head Coach

Taking full-time role as Head Coach, will concentrate on the coaching side this season however we know that white line fever may get the better of him. Very handy across all positions on court. Runner up Best and Fairest last year.

Grant Leonard

Captain

Guernsey Number: 1

Captain, and fourth year player up forward. Very grateful to represent this great club. Captained the SA Team for the 2nd time at last year’s AFL Wheelchair Championship. As with the whole team, he can’t wait to bring the cup home to The Parade for the first time.

Michael Neroni

Guernsey Number: 2

Third-year player. His height and speed has been crucial for our backline and will also be floating up forward this season. Michael Neroni received last year’s Trademark Player award.

Holly Gould

Guernsey Number: 6

Fourth-year player, plays up forward, always seems to get free and very handy in the goals. Works particularly well with her Dad on court, making them a great father-daughter combination.

Darren Schutz

Guernsey Number: 12

Darren is a second-year player for NFC, and the winner of last year’s Best and Fairest, a very handy addition to the side last year with his height and chairs skills for a low two pointer. Started last year’s season as ruck whilst helping Rick learn the position as well. Very handy as a backman with his height and speed.

Richard Davis

Guernsey Number: 9

Fourth-year player. Mr Reliable, our versatile backman for the team. Always consistent, giving 100% for the team and steadies the ship for us down back. Richie represented SA for the second time at last year AFL Wheelchair Championship.

2022 NFC Runner Up Best & Fairest, MVP for the SA Team that finished 2nd at 2022 AFL Wheelchair Championship

Simon Hingston

Guernsey Number: 8

Fourth-year player, the King of the motorbike celebration. He plays a major role in the Reserves team. Simmo brings a lot of heart to the game and the mighty Redlegs. Very keen to watch Simmo in the Reserves league this year.

Michael Hingston

Guernsey Number: 13

Fourth-year member of the NFC team. Enjoys bringing Simmo out to the games and always being very supportive of the team. We really appreciate all of his time and efforts for our team.

Wayne McNamara

Guernsey Number: 11

Fourth-year player, aka Plugger. Brings a lot of experience to the team, has been part of wheelchair football since the inception in the SA Wheelchair team for the original national carnivals. Very handy up forward with long range and accurate goal kicking, showing his strength in this area.

Rick Leonard

Guernsey Number: 20

Now in his second year with Norwood FC. Spent most of his court time last year learning the role of Ruck. Has improved immensely and we are very keen to see how well he works up and down the court.

Chris Simpson

Guernsey Number: 4

Formerly from WWTFC and one of the original players of the game with Wayne McNamara from the onset of wheelchair football.  A big inclusion to help out our backline . Chris also represented SA at last year’s AFL Wheelchair Championships. We are very excited to have him with us now and also his son Nathan when he’s available.

Nathan Simpson

Guernsey Number: 5
