Norwood secure Round 1 Dev League win

Dev League R1 - Norwood 5.4-34 def Central District 3.2-20

Norwood’s SANFLW Development League side kicked off its 2025 campaign with a 14-point win against Central District at Elizabeth’s X Convenience Oval on Saturday.

After trailing by two goals midway through the third quarter, the Redlegs piled on the last four goals of the game to run out comfortable victors, 5.4-34 to 3.2-20.

Young forward Isabella Calvanese booted three goals for Norwood and was one of the Redlegs’ best, nailing two clutch goals in the last term to help the visitors over the line.

In her first game in red and blue Timeka Cox hit the scoreboard with a sharp effort off the ground, while Elke Cameron converted a difficult set shot in the final term.

Another new recruit Amalie Innes was impressive in her club debut, while Taylor Hand, Hannah Bentley, Georgina Birchall and Sharmaine Crosby were other strong contributors.

Birchall – whose played eight SANFLW League matches – was Norwood’s best afield.

Norwood next face Glenelg at Richmond Oval on Saturday, 1 March at 2:10pm in Round 2 of the SANFLW Development League.

SANFLW Trial - Norwood 6.8-44 def Central District 1.6-12

Norwood’s SANFLW side earned a comprehensive 32-point win in its first trial match of the 2025 season, taking on Central District on Saturday morning.

Played in sweltering heat at Elizabeth’s X Convenience Oval, the temperature nudged 39 degrees, but both sides toiled away valiantly in difficult conditions.

The visiting Redlegs were the stronger team throughout the contest and superior at both ends of the ground in the 6.8-44 to 1.6-12 win.

2024 leading goal kicker Kiana Lee was again a strong force in the forward line, kicking three goals, while Jade Halfpenny, Shai Hiscock and Mykaela Walker were the other goal kickers for Norwood.

Norwood’s SANFLW team next travel to Hobart to take on a Tasmanian representative side on Sunday, 2 March before starting their 2025 season against South Adelaide on Saturday, 15 March at Noarlunga Oval.
