Norwood Captain Jade Halfpenny recorded the second-most disposals in SANFL Women’s history, gathering 41 disposals during Saturday’s 37-point win over West Adelaide at X Convenience Oval.
Halfpenny fell one shy of the record, which remains with three-time Adelaide Crows AFLW Premiership player Anne Hatchard, who registered 42 disposals in Round 5 of the 2020 SANFL Women’s Season.
On Saturday, Norwood recorded a classy 10.6-66 to 4.5-29 win over the Bloods, charging away from Westies with an impressive second half display.
It wasn’t just Halfpenny who cashed in with a personal best performance, with Elle Lineage booting a career-high four goals, and Lani Cocks collecting 36 disposals, seven clearances and a goal.
Elke Cameron got Norwood on the board in the first quarter, and Lineage booted her first goal early in the second term. Ashlee Baker got the Redlegs off to a great start with another goal at the three-minute mark of the second term.
Jemima Woods and Ella Maxwell found back to back goals for Westies to get the margin back to three points.
Lineage and Amelia Rusden kicked two late majors ahead of the main break, to make it a 15-point margin at half time.
West kept the pressure on with the first goal in the opening 30 seconds of the second half, but from there Norwood kicked the next five unanswered goals to get the margin out to 42 points early in the final term
It was the Redlegs third consecutive win, which has elevated them to third on the table after four games. Norwood will enjoy a bye this weekend, for the Senior Men’s and Women’s State game in Western Australia, before hosting North Adelaide at Coopers Stadium in Round 5.
