Norwood can’t make the most of Redlegs Round

Norwood let a golden opportunity slip on Friday night, hosting the rest of the SANFL Wheelchair Football League sides in the inaugural “Redlegs Round” at The ARC Campbelltown.

All of the competition’s matches have been hosted at the neutral venue of The Lights Community and Sports Centre in Lightsview, but this season the League has included one home match for each club in Rounds 4, 5, 7 and 8.

It started with Redlegs Round on Friday night in Norwood’s metro zone of Campbelltown, but it was the Eagles who looked more at home on court.

Reigning premier Woodville-West Torrens was keen to respond to a Round 1 loss against their Redlegs rivals, and did so emphatically with a 76-point Round 4 win.

The Eagles looked on from the first minute, scoring five goals to one in the opening quarter.

It was another five goals to two in the second term, and the game was effectively over at half time, 10.6-66 to 3.1-19.

Woodville-West Torrens nailed nine goals to four after half time in a runaway, 19.7-121 to 7.3-45 win.

The loss puts Norwood in a precarious position on the ladder, now sitting third. The undefeated Central District is top of the ladder, followed by the Eagles and Redlegs who are 2-2, and the winless Westies.

Norwood is third on percentage, and will be hoping to boost that this Friday against the struggling Bloods.

This Friday’s game will be held at Parafield Gardens Recreation Centre for “Eagles Round”
