Norwood claim 28-point win against Centrals

NORWOOD has returned to the winner’s list after a comfortable 28-point win against Central District on Saturday afternoon.

The Redlegs were bolstered by some big ins which included 2019 Best and Fairest winner Najwa Allen and third-placed winner Monique Hollick who provided plenty of dash throughout the Norwood midfield.

After falling just short of the Dogs in Round One, the Redlegs were out for revenge as they booted the first two goals of the contest through Captain Alison Ferrall and Alana Lishmund.

Despite Centrals attempt to move the ball quickly, the Redlegs defence was resolute as Rhiannon Busch and Ana Barisic impressed down back.

Norwood held Centrals goalless in the first term and started the second quarter brightly however were not able to capitalise with Norwood proving inaccurate in front of goal.

It took until the 17th-minute mark for Captain Ali Ferrall to mark strongly in the goal square and kick her second extending the margin to 21-points at the main break.

The Redlegs came out just as hungry as they did in the first half as NT recruit Mattea Breed kicked her first of the day from 25 metres out before Breed popped up again five minutes later to finish around the corner from 40-metres to extend the lead to 33-points.

Despite the Dogs responding with a goal of their own, the Redlegs knew they needed to keep up the pressure to finish the job at Elizabeth.

Five minutes into the last term Breed was impeded on in the goal square and made no mistake kicking her third before gun midfielder Matilda Zander kicked a lovely weighted ball over the top for Ferrall to run onto and kick her third of the contest.

The Redlegs will now face the Eagles next Saturday afternoon in their first home match of the season at Coopers Stadium.
