Redlegs blitz the Bloods

NORWOOD has recorded it’s third win in succession after a dominant display at Hisense Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Redlegs have moved into the top four after a commanding 67-point win against the Bloods.

Jarrod Cotton’s men led at each break, with Norwood kicking seven unanswered goals in the Premiership quarter to set up the win.

With the return of speedy midfielder Matthew Nunn, the Redlegs midfield went to work early against the Bloods, as skipper Matthew Panos kicked three goals in the opening term to signify Norwood’s intent.

Duel Magarey Medallist Mitch Grigg chimed in with two of his own in the first term, before Tommy Pinyon calmly slotted a shot from 30 metres out to hand Norwood a 20-point buffer at the first break.

The second term started off with a trademark Lewis Johnston goal from 50 metres just inside the first seven minutes of play, and Pinyon then provided a great marking target to kick his second of the match.

Anthony Wilson playing his 100th game capitalized on his opportunity midway through the quarter to send the Norwood fans into jubilation as Norwood stretched its margin to 24-points at the main break.

Still with all to play for in the second half Norwood’s third quarter performance was clearly their best of the season. With Norwood’s full midfield brigade on the park, it was able to generate several clearances to provide inside 50 entries for the forwards. Brisbane recruit Ryan Bastinac showed his class and poise booting two for the quarter, while Richard Douglas kicked one of the goals of the season from 60-metres out.

Zac Richards, Anthony Wilson and Tom Pinyon all kicked majors in the quarter to open up an 11-goal lead with a quarter to play.

The Redlegs continued to dominate and dictate the tempo of the clash, as they continued to run hard and spread to work the home side over.

South recruit Emmanuel Irra kicked his second goal in Norwood colours in the final stages as Norwood ran out 67-point victors.

Douglas was in vintage form for the visitors, racking up 35 disposals and three goals while former North Melbourne ball magnet Ryan Bastinac took another step forward in his second game with 29 touches, 10 marks, five clearances and two goals.

Norwood captain Matthew Panos was instrumental in setting up the victory when he booted three of his four goals in the opening quarter.

The smooth-moving utility racked up 27 disposals and six clearances as Brad McKenzie, Mitch Grigg and Matthew Nunn also surpassed the 30-disposals mark.

Nunn’s performance would have been particularly pleasing for Legs’ officials considering it was his first game back after straining a hamstring at training three weeks ago.

McKenzie and Lewis Johnston set up plenty of play by controlling the tempo, each taking a staggering 16 marks.
