Howie to depart Norwood

The Norwood Football Club wishes to confirm that Chris Howie will be unable to continue in the role of Senior Women’s Coach beyond 2020.

After leading Norwood to their fourth finals campaign, Howie has decided to step aside from the role due to work commitments.

Howie was appointed head-coach at the end of the 2019 SANFL Season and guided the women through a tough period throughout 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak after the first five rounds of the season.

Despite falling to West Adelaide in their first final, Howie led the women to third on the ladder with 5 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws.

Football Operations Manager, Mark Ross, thanked Howie for his service to the football club and wished him all the best in his future endeavours.

“Chris has been the ultimate professional since his appointment as Coach at the end of 2019, said Ross.”

“As a club, we thank Chris for his undivided commitment to the football club especially throughout a tough period for everyone during the year.

“We wish Chris all the best and hope he is able to stay involved with our club in some other capacity.”

Outgoing Coach Chris Howie, spoke glowingly of his time at Norwood and in particular the development of the team moving forward.

“I really loved my time here at Norwood,” said Howie.

“It was a little bit tough early taking over from such a successful coach as Steve Symonds, however, the professionalism in which the girls approached playing for Norwood was outstanding.

“I think the team is really well-positioned for 2021 and have what it takes to have success very soon.”
