Legs clip the Eagles wings

NORWOOD cemented its place at the top of the Statewide Super Women’s League ladder with a 10-point win against Woodville-West Torrens at Adelaide Oval.

Now with five wins in succession, the Legs started the contest with a point to prove in their first outing at the Adelaide Oval.

Norwood kicked the first three behinds of the contest before Drake set up in form forward Rosette Zerella who marked strongly from 25 metres out. Zerella struck the ball nicely handing Norwood a nine-point lead early in the first term.

The Redlegs continued to hunt the opposition for the remainder of the term despite capitalising on the scoreboard kicking 1.5 for the term.

After the quarter time break, Drake was again at her best kicking Norwood’s first of the term inside the first two minutes. The Eagles responded four minutes after, as the Redlegs took a nine-point lead into the main break.

The Redlegs were forced into an arm wrestle with the Eagles in the third term with Woodville keeping the ladder leaders goalless whilst kicking one of their own.

This set up a mouth-watering final term with only three points the margin.

The Redlegs broke free of the Eagles in the last term with goals to Elizabeth Drake and Mattea Breed after registering an inside 50m advantage of 35-15.

Norwood continued to mound pressure on the Eagles keeping them goalless to record their fifth in a row.

Norwood vice-captain Sophie Armitstead collected 17 disposals and five clearances while pacy Jade Halfpenny had 15 possessions.
