Taheny to return to The Parade

NORWOOD will be bolstered by former Geelong utility Cam Taheny ahead of the 2022 SANFL Season.

Delisted by the Cats at the end of 2021, Taheny will return to his junior club Norwood setting his sights on a Premiership with this current crop of players.

Taheny was drafted to Geelong with pick 50 in the 2019 AFL National draft.

While injuries and COVID hampered his short stint at Geelong, Taheny managed to play five VFL games in 2021.

Taheny returns to Norwood after making seven senior appearances in 2019 booting 15 goals, which included a four-goal haul in the Reserves Grand Final.

The 20-year-old played both down back and up forward at Geelong, however, will look to add flair and versatility to the Norwood lineup next season.

Norwood Football Services Manager, Rob Harding was pleased to see the Norwood junior return to The Parade in 2022 which gives optimism and enthusiasm to the playing list moving forward.

“We’re really excited to be able to sign Cam ahead of the 2022 SANFL Season,” said Harding.

“He has fantastic athleticism; great versatility and we know Cam will provide a lot of different options for us throughout the year.

“We can’t wait to see what Cam will bring on and off the park and are confident we will see his best footy played at Norwood next year.”

Taheny said he is looking forward to returning to The Parade in 2022 especially with the prospect of playing football again with friends he started as a junior with.

“I’m pretty excited to get back to The Parade in 2022,” Taheny said.

“The prospect of playing with some guys who I first started playing with and then some of the boys who I played juniors with who have come through is pretty exciting.

“I’m looking forward to getting started and seeing where can go with this group.”

In reflecting on his time at Geelong, Taheny is confident he returns a better player than when he first left in 2019.

“It’s been an unbelievable two years of learning at Geelong,” Taheny said.

“With the COVID it was a bit hard because I haven’t played a lot of footy, but in terms of spending time around superstars like Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood and Mark Blicavs in the hub situation was an invaluable experience.

“Also, under the guidance of some fantastic coaches to learn off, I have been very lucky to have spent the time I did there.”
