Remembered as a tough, close-checking defender, Brenton Klaebe progressed through Norwood’s under-aged sides, playing in all of the club’s junior grades on his way to League football. He was a member of Norwood’s Under 17 premiership teams in 1983 and 1984. The following season Klaebe was outstanding for the Redlegs in the Under 19 Grand Final – Norwood defeating Port Adelaide 35.10 to 17.9.
Aggressive and uncompromising, Klaebe made his League debut against North Adelaide at Prospect Oval in Round 9, 1986. Norwood won the match 14.16 to 7.15. He played another eight senior games in 1986 and was an important player in the Norwood team that thrashed Woodville by 81 points in the Reserves Grand Final later that year.
