SANFL has confirmed a blockbuster schedule of finals footy action, headlined by the 2021 SANFL Statewide Super League Grand Final, which will be played on Sunday, October 3 at 3pm.
Once again, all matches during the four-week Finals Series will be played at Adelaide Oval with crowds of 26,500 currently permitted by SA Health under the stadium’s COVID Management Plan.
For the first time in the League’s 143-year history, SANFL will also play a Friday night Preliminary Final on September 24 – the night before the AFL Grand Final, to be broadcast live on Channel 7.
With the teams now locked in after today’s conclusion of the minor rounds, the Finals Series will kick-off next week with a Sunday afternoon double header that will see North Adelaide play South Adelaide in the Elimination Final and the Eagles taking on Norwood in the Qualifying Final, with the winner booking their place in a Semi Final match-up against minor premier Glenelg.
SANFL General Manager Football Matt Duldig said it was great to see the SANFL Statewide Super League return to a full four-week Finals Series at Adelaide Oval.
SANFL General Manager Football Matt Duldig“We expect the prelim final in a prime-time broadcast timeslot on Channel 7 will attract huge interest, not only in South Australia but across the country, with no other football being played that night.''
“There’s a real buzz of excitement around this year’s Finals Series, with the traditional Sunday Grand Final returning to the October long weekend sure to add to the festive atmosphere,” he said.
“The historic Friday night Preliminary Final – on the eve of the AFL Grand Final – also will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase SANFL footy to the entire nation.
“We expect the prelim final in a prime-time broadcast timeslot on Channel 7 will attract huge interest, not only in South Australia but across the country, with no other football being played that night.
“While we know things can change quickly in the current environment, we are also pleased and privileged to be able to host crowds of at least 26,500 people at Adelaide Oval – hopefully even more as we progress through the Finals Series.”
