9242 people flocked to Norwood Oval on Saturday to watch Brisbane take on the Western Bulldogs, before 9235 people attended St Kilda V GWS on Sunday.
2025 was the third installment of the AFL’s Gather Round, which has grown in popularity with each year. And for all three seasons Norwood Oval has hosted AFL matches.
Overall, Gather Round broke another attendance record over the weekend, with 269,506 people attending the nine matches at Adelaide Oval, Norwood Oval and the new Barossa Park.
On Saturday, footy fans were witness to an incredible clash between the reigning premier Lions and the Western Bulldogs, with Brisbane coming back from 39 points behind to claim a 21-point win, 18.10-118 to 14.13-97.
Then on Sunday, as the Norwood Food and Wine Festival was pumping down The Parade, inside Norwood Oval fans were treated to the Toby Greene show as the GWS skipper booted six goals on the way to a 28-point Giants win, 16.14-110 to 12.10-82.
What makes Gather Round special is the fan-engagement and close-up access to favourite players, with all 18 AFL clubs relocating to Adelaide for the weekend.
The week got underway on Wednesday when St Kilda arrived for its main training session of the week, where hundreds of Saints fans turned out to catch a glimpse and capture a selfie or signature from each of their players.
Then it was the Bulldogs turn to host their open training session on Friday morning, before a Brisbane Lions training and clinic on Norwood Oval on Friday afternoon.
The Giants headed to The Parade on Saturday morning for their session, ahead of the first game on Saturday afternoon.
It was a busy weekend at Norwood, but we thank the four clubs, Brisbane, the Bulldogs, Saints and Giants, and your amazing fans for attending the games, training sessions and clinics at Norwood Oval. That’s what makes Gather Round what it is.
Now Norwood turns its attention to an Easter Thursday blockbuster at Norwood Oval in just three days time, 7:40pm start.
