The Norwood Football Club has welcomed several new interstate signings over the past week, including Toby Callow, Sam Simpson, Matt Harms, Josh Murphy and Alex Swinnerton.
Toby and Sam both head to Norwood from Tasmanian club North Launceston, to play alongside their brothers Jackson Callow and Ben Simpson at The Parade.
Toby is straight out of the Tasmania Devils & Allies U18 program, and returns to The Parade having played some junior football for the Redlegs.
“It’s exciting to get Toby over from Tasmania, he is a great size and he actually plays down the other end of the ground to Jackson, a hybrid defender so hopefully we can have a Callow at each end,” Norwood GM of Football Daniel Menzel said.
Sam, heads to Norwood from North Launceston where his Bombers claimed the Northern Tasmania Premier Division flag this year. Mainly playing on the wing, Sam kicked 15 goals from 17 games.
The club also announced last week the signing of Victorian Matthew Harms.
Harms heads to Norwood after spending the last four seasons in the VFL system with Sandringham and most recently GWS, playing 25 VFL games for the Zabras and Giants for 21 goals.
The 22-year-old forward also played eight matches for Beaumaris in the VAFA, winning the Premier C Men’s flag.
“Matt will really help us in the front half,” Menzel said.
“He has some elite speed, he finds the footy and can hit the scoreboard. He can also link up and lay pressure, so he can defensively help us and also cause damage back the other way on offense.
“He’s looked at the SANFL as an option over the past couple of years, and hasn’t made the call to come over, but we are rapt that he’s made the decision now. He’s one that fans should keep an eye on.”
Norwood has also welcomed Alex Swinnerton and Josh Murphy from the Ovens and Murray Football Netball League.
Playing for North Albury, Murphy kicked 64 goals from 15 OMFNL matches this season, whilst also playing five VFL games for Collingwood. The 19-year-old key forward won the goal kicking award in the OMFNL this season.
Joining Murphy is Swinnerton, a 19-year-old small forward from OMFNL club Lavington. He also played five VFL games in 2025 with the GWS Giants, kicking four goals. For Lavington, Swinnerton kicked 18 goals from 16 games and averaged nine tackles per game.
“It’s great to bring these two over, they are heading over together,” Menzel said.
“Alex is a small forward from Lavington, he loves pressure and putting opposition defenders under the pump. He also knows how to find the football and is a good link up player.
“Josh is a key position player from North Albury where he kicked 60-plus goals so he knows how to hit the scoreboard, with a season high 11 goals in a game. We can’t wait to see what he can do for us.”
These boys join the likes of Harry Boyd (returning from St Kilda’s AFL list), Kade Dittmar (Central District) and Aaron Francis (Sydney’s AFL list) as key signings ahead of the 2026 season.
