Norwood U18 Captain Darcy Speyer took home the 2025 Best and Fairest Award at last night’s U18s Awards Ceremony, held at the club’s Wolf Blass Community Centre.
Speyer won the vote count by three votes, ahead of Micah Kretschmer, to claim his third consecutive Best and Fairest honour.
Speyer won the U16 Best and Fairest trophy in 2023, then won the 2024 U18 Best and Fairest in his first season, before securing last night’s title in a narrow count.
State representative Noah Daw finished third.
Midfielder Speyer played 13 U18 games and three Reserves games in 2025, and missed two matches with concussion. He averaged 27 disposals, five clearances and four tackles in the U18s, whilst kicking seven goals for the year. Speyer was the fourth highest disposal winner across the U18 competition, despite missing five matches, and Kretschmer finished sixth in disposals and eighth in tackles.
Kretschmer played 14 U18 and six Reserves matches, averaging 24 disposals, five tackles and five clearances, kicking 10 goals.
Tall defender Daw played nine U18s games and three Reserves games, whilst lining up in two State matches for South Australia. For the U18s he averaged 21 disposals and seven marks.
Mitch Stevenson won Norwood’s U18 Leading Goal Kicker Award with 17 majors, Harvey Pearce was recognised as the Best First Year Player, and Harry Lake received the Fortis Award.
Thomas Gribben has claimed back to back U16 Best and Fairest Awards, winning by 50 votes at Tuesday night’s Awards Evening.
Mason Tambe was Runner Up and Joseph Nak third place.
Gribben had an outstanding season, predominantly in defence for the Redlegs, averaging 22 disposals, seven marks and four tackles across his 14 games. Gribben showed his flexibility, kicking 10 goals throughout the season, including four in the final game of the year.
He was selected in SA’s U16s side at the 2025 National Championships.
Also in defence, Tambe was excellent for Norwood across his 17 matches, averaging 26 disposals, six marks and four tackles. Tambe registered 30-plus disposals on six occasions, including 37 against Centrals in Round 8.
Third placed Nak was also Norwood’s U16 leading goal kicker with 19 majors from his 14 matches, averaging 18 disposals per game.
George Serocki was the U16 Fortis Player of the Year, Jy Hazelhurst won the Coaches Trophy.
