Eagles overrun the Legs

NORWOOD has suffered its third straight defeat after the Eagles continued their impressive start to 2020 with a 65-point win.

The Eagles looked on right from the get-go and their intentions were made clear booting the first three majors of the contest.

Trailing by 21-points at quarter-time it took off-season recruit Emmanuel Irra to register Norwood’s first goal five minutes into the second term.

The Redlegs continued to become their own worst enemy as fundamental skills errors allowed the Eagles to claim possession to generate inside 50 entries.

The Eagles were wasteful in front of goal, however still accumulated a 25-point lead.

The news did not get any better for Norwood after halftime as injuries to both Luke Surman and Michael Talia meant Norwood had to play with two rotations less for the second half.

After the resumption of play, it was the Eagles who came out with clear intent as they stretched the lead courtesy of Jack Hayes inside the first two minutes of the third term.

The Eagles then piled on three more after that to charge to a 49-point lead with only ten minutes played of the Premiership quarter before Richard Douglas found space from a stoppage to snap truly from 15 metres out to breathe some life into the contest late in the third term.

The Redlegs went onto to kick two of the next three through Cameron Shenton and Tom Pinyon to cut the margin back to 36-points heading into the final term.

As the Legs battled manfully in the final term, the Eagles were much cleaner and their ability to hit targets and spread caused Norwood all sorts of trouble.

The Eagles piled on five goals in the final term to claim an impressive 67-point win.

Douglas fought hard gathering a game-high 31 disposals, five tackles and a goal, while Brad McKenzie and Sam Baulderstone had 21 touches apiece.

The Legs will now turn their attention to Central District on Saturday afternoon.
