Norwood’s SANFLW side was hunting for back to back wins when it travelled out to Woodville Oval on Saturday to take on the undefeated Woodville-West Torrens Eagles.

The Redlegs started well, and led by two points at quarter time, before the Eagles kicked into gear with six unanswered goals to run out 38-point winners.

Former Redleg Rosette Zerella was more than a handful for Norwood, kicking four goals for her Eagles in the 7.7-49 to 1.5-11 win.

Zerella kicked the first goal of the afternoon, which was soon followed up with Norwood’s first through Kiana Lee.

At quarter time it was a Norwood lead, 1.2-8 to 1.0-6.

It was a goalless second term, but both sides had good opportunities to make their stamp on the match with the Eagles kicking 0.4 to Norwood’s 0.2 in the second quarter.

Scores were level at half time, 1.4-10 apiece, and both sides had a lot on the line. The Eagles a 4-0 start, and the Redlegs trying to even the season ledger at 2-2.

It was one-way traffic after half time, as the Eagles dominated with six goals to none.

The game was over at three quarter time following a Woodville-West Torrens four-goal third term to lead by 25 points at the final break. Two third quarter goals came off the boot of Zerella.

The game was put to bed five minutes into the fourth quarter when Ashley Baker landed the final blow, before Zerella booted her fourth in the dying minutes.

It was again an inside 50m avalanche, 41-19, which has been an issue for the Redlegs across the first month of football which now has Norwood situated at 1-3 and seventh on the SANFLW ladder.

Zerella wasn’t the only issue for the Redlegs in Round 4, with Christina Leuzzi gathering 31 disposals, and Poppy Waterford 21.

Sophie Arkun was Norwood’s best with 19 disposals, while Jade Halfpenny also had 19 touches and seven tackles.

Norwood have the Gather Round bye next weekend, before travelling to Unley to take on Sturt on Good Friday.

After an undefeated start to the SANFLW Development League season, back to back losses has Norwood’s grand final hopes in jeopardy.

The Redlegs fell to North Adelaide by 24 points in Round 5, and then went down to Woodville-West Torrens by seven points during Saturday’s Round 6 match at Woodville Oval.

Norwood now must win the Round 7 Good Friday clash against Sturt to have any chance of making the Grand Final on April 26.

The winner of the South Adelaide V Glenelg match will all-but secure a spot in the decider, with the Panthers in the box seat with a 5-1 record.

Glenelg, Sturt and Norwood are all a live chance with a 4-2 record, heading into the final round of the home and away season. There is no finals series, just a Grand Final on April 26.

On Saturday, it was a close first half, with the Eagles booting 1.1-7 to Norwood’s 0.2-2, before the home team managed to kick two unanswered goals in the third term to go 21 points ahead at the final break.

Norwood threw everything at the Eagles in the final term, kicking 2.3 to 0.1, but landed just short in a 3.7-25 to 2.6-18 defeat.

Elke Cameron, who has put together a fantastic Development League season was once again Best on Ground for Norwood, while Lottie Almond, Elle Lineage, Sharmaine Crosby and Megan Harper were also named in the best.

Norwood’s goal kickers were Adrienne Davies and Almond.
