Norwood’s ruckman Harry Boyd has been named in the 32-player West End State squad ahead of the State game against the WAFL on May 19.
Boyd leads the league in hit-outs (averaging 40 per game) and clearances (8.4 per game) across the first five rounds of 2023, while also averaging 14 disposals.
“It is a huge honour to be selected in this squad,” he said.
“It something that comes at a challenging time for our side (at 0-5), it’s an honour to be selected but I am looking for our (Norwood) side to get a win first and foremost.
“South Australia has a proud history, and despite coming from country Victoria I am aware of that history.”
The 25-year-old has played 46 League matches and kicked 16 goals since joining the club for the 2021 season, and played in the 2022 SANFL Premiership.
Boyd played in last year’s state game in Perth, which SA won by four points.
“It was a humbling experience last year, a great honour,” he said.
“Being Victorian I never thought that I would be wearing an SA State guernsey, and to be able to do that again would be exciting.”
Norwood coach Jade Rawlings – who will also coach the State team this year – said Boyd had been a huge asset to the Redlegs across his three seasons.
“Harry has been a fantastic player for our football club and has continuously improved on his game to become one of the best ruckmen in the League,” Rawlings said.
“He has been a very consistent performer and this selection is a great reward for him.”
Boyd has been the only Norwood player selected in the squad.
This comes on the same day that Norwood SANFLW listed player Charli Hazelhurst was named in the U16 Girls All-Australian Team following a strong 2023 AFL National Development Championships.
