NORWOOD is pleased to announce the signing of decorated midfielder Chris Jansen for the 2022 SANFL Season.
Jansen joins the club from Port Melbourne in the VFL. After COVID affected seasons in 2020 and 2021, Jansen only featured a couple of times for the red and blue.
The 26-year-old applied his trade previously at Central District before joining the North Melbourne VFL team at the end of 2017.
He went on to play 35 games across two seasons before joining Port Melbourne for the 2020 VFL Season.
Originally from New South Wales, Jansen’s footballing journey saw him spend time with Central Districts in the SANFL where he was crowned as their 2017 Best and Fairest winner.
Despite such a glittering state league resume, Jansen is still only 26 years of age and possesses leadership and maturity well beyond his years.
Football Operations Manager Rob Harding said it was a delight to attract such a well-known figure like Chris to the Norwood Football Club in 2022.
“We’re delighted to have Chris on board for Season 2022,” said Harding.
“He has been a fantastic player at this level for a number of years having played in the SANFL previously with Centrals and the last four years in the VFL at North Melbourne and Port Melbourne.
“We know he is going to bring great leadership and experience into our group, and we feel he is going to be an important player in the coming years.”
Jansen said he was excited to be returning to South Australia and admits joining Norwood was a tough decision however believes what the club was offering suited him in a myriad of ways.
“I’m really excited to be committing to Norwood for Season 2022,” said Jansen.
“The decision to join Norwood wasn’t just purely based on football.
“The Redlegs are a really strong + successful club, I do have a lot of love for Centrals as well after spending a couple of years there, so it was a tough decision to come to The Parade.
“But I thought what Norwood could offer both on and off the field really matched where I needed to be with my career.
“Rob Harding and Jade Rawlings are really confident where things are at with the list. From all reports, it’s a really exciting time for the club and really looking forward to getting over to SA and meeting my new teammates.”
