A four goal from Tasmanian recruit, Baynen Lowe has inspired Norwood to a 21-point win against Central District on Friday night at Coopers Stadium.
The Redlegs, who were winless in their past two matches were able to withstand a third quarter fightback by the Dog to win their third game of 2022.
The match started as a shootout with both sides going goal for goal throughout the opening stanza.
The Redlegs were efficient early with goals courtesy of Tom Wagner and former Centrals forward, Connor McLean.
The second term saw Norwood control the proceedings as Lowe kicked a banana goal within the opening two minutes.
Lowe was again on the scoresheet 12 minutes later as he fashioned a goal out of nothing from an acute angle to extend Norwood’s lead.
McLean then put the finishing touches to what was an efficient term for Norwood as they led Centrals by 15-points at the main break.
The third term belonged to Centrals as they fashioned a comeback courtesy of an early goal by livewire forward Aidan Grace.
Two goals from ruck/forward Fraser Fort had the Redlegs faithful quite nervous, however, it was Lowe who was able to bring the fans to life with a goal of the week contender from the boundary line late in the term.
Only five points separated the two sides heading into the final quarter.
The resilience of Jade Rawlings’ young group was on show, as it was the leaders of Matt Nunn, Harry Boyd and Nik Rokahr who settled things for Norwood and were able to get the game on Redlegs terms.
Hybrid forward Ben Jarvis who managed three behinds in the match finally found some reward for effort with an early goal to swing the momentum in Norwood’s favour before Lowe and Rokahr put the finishing touches to a much-needed Redlegs win.
Rapidly developing Boyd finished with a stunning 32 disposals and 14 clearances to go with his 47 hit outs as the Legs won the overall clearance count by 42 to 28.
Boyd also racked up six inside 50s and five rebound 50s to work hard both ways as he brought his midfielders into the game, ensuring Nik Rokahr (32 disposals), Matt Nunn (28 disposals), Jay Rantall (25 disposals) and Josh Richards (24 disposals) would also be prominent.
The Redlegs now turn their attention to Friday night when they face League leaders Adelaide at Coopers Stadium.
