Match Report – Roosters defeat Lady Legs

After freshening up with a weekend off, what should have been, was some way off.

Our first 10 minutes of the contest was promising, matching North Adelaide’s pressure and physicality around the ground, but as the quarter progressed, North gained the upper hand and took control of the game. We failed to score a major, whilst North managed two goals late that had us trailing at the break by 13-points.

A goal to North within 30 seconds in the second quarter put us on the back foot straight up. To the girls credit, they fought hard to try and get the game back on our terms keeping North goalless until the last few minutes of the half where they managed to break through with two. Unfortunately, we struggled to penetrate forward and could not apply any scoreboard pressure. Half time we trailed by 35-points.

The challenge was set at the main break to lift the work rate and intensity around the contest – that we did. It was a much better performance. Whilst North managed to score, we were able to kick three goals ourselves and were much more competitive.

Heading into the last quarter, the focus was fighting out the game. We had completely run out of legs, with players off injured, being short of rotations and exhaustion setting in. We could not match North’s intensity and while we were held goalless, we could not stop them from piling on four goals which had the final margin blow out to 62 points.

On the positive front, we had four debutants who all performed well and showed that they are more than capable to hold their own at league level. With more experience and time, they will become valuable players for the team.
