NORWOOD has locked in its 2020 coaching panel with three-time Premiership player Simon Phillips and three-time Magarey Medallist James Allan joining the panel.
James Allan has been coaching the Under 18 program since 2018, and the club is pleased to see him take the next step in his coaching career as League midfield coach in 2020.
Fan favourite and 2015 leading goalkicker Simon Phillips also returns to the club in 2020, after retiring at the end of the 2018 season.
Phillips will take on the role of forwards coach taking over from Gavin Hughes who has moved into the role of Midfield assistant while also continuing as Senior Coach of the Reserves.
Football Operations Manager Mark Ross said it was great to see two experienced former Norwood players move into significant developing roles in 2020.
“James’s growth as a coach at Norwood has been immeasurable, he has a genuine care for his colleagues and players and we see him as a natural fit for the midfield role,” Ross said.
“We’re proud to see him develop within our coaching ranks and we expect him to add great value to Jarrod’s senior coaching group.”
“As for Flipper (Simon Phillips) he has a reputation for being a great club man and someone who is dedicated to helping develop those around him,” Ross said.
“With Simon’s appointment, our coaching panel is finalised and we’re confident we have a great mix of experience and skills to work with our players in 2020.”
