Norwood fall in first Semi-Final

NORWOOD has been knocked out of the 2020 Statewide Super Finals after falling to West Adelaide yesterday afternoon by 43-points at Thebarton Oval.

West Adelaide kicked the first two majors of the match as they led the Redlegs by 11-points at the first break.

The Bloods started the second quarter in control as they missed an early opportunity inside the first five minutes. With seven minutes on the clock, West Adelaide kicked their third of the game as they stretched their margin to 18-points.

In a rather contested game, Norwood were not able to breakdown their opposition as the Bloods led by 18-points at halftime.

With all to play for in the second half, Westies kicked the first two majors within the first ten minutes to stretch the margin to a game high 31-points.

Norwood quickly responded as Najwa Allen’s kick found speedy forward Matilda Zander who was 30 metres out on an acute angle.

Zander made no mistake of her kick to give the Redlegs a fighting chance of a comeback.

Unfortunately, West Adelaide’s ball movement going forward was too much to handle for Norwood as they conceded two late goals to put the margin to 37-points heading into the final quarter.

The Redlegs continued to fight and were rewarded as Alana Lishmund kicked her first of the game from directly in front to reduce the deficit to 31.

The Bloods finished the game with two late goals to progress into the next round of finals and unfortunately end Norwood’s 2020 campaign.
