The Norwood Football Club is excited to welcome new head chef Phil Carey.

Phil comes to the club with a mountain of experience, spending 24 years working in kitchens, ranging from pubs to fine dining restaurants.

Phil spent six years as head chef at The Tower Hotel on Magill Road, before taking on a key role in opening The Pickled Duck in Modbury and Mozza in Thebarton.

Now, he’s excited to take on a different role as the head chef of a football club.

“I am incredibly excited to be the head chef at the Norwood Football Club, which has so many different focusses and touch points within the community,” he said.

“We have a focus on functions, events, catering for seminars and corporate functions, as well as the classic football club requirements such as game day meals and burger deals, supporters nights, post game player meals and football functions.”

Phil has already helped the club re-shape its bistro menu.

The club’s bistro is currently open every Thursday for Supporters Night, where Norwood fans and the wider public have the chance to head into The Premiers Bar, watch training, enjoy a beer and order a meal. The club is hoping to open the bar and bistro more frequently moving forward.

Phil said his signature dishes were the fried chicken and the South Australian classic pie floater, as well as the usual schnitzels and steaks.

“They call me, and I am kind of known as a ‘man’s chef’,” he said.

“I love comfort food, and making sure people are well fed. Nobody leaves hungry.

“This type of food, and a football club go hand in hand.”

Norwood Football Club Venue Manager Pat Allan said the club’s kitchen was in good hands with Phil.

“Having worked with Phil previously I’m extremely excited to be able to bring his food and experience into our business, and share with everyone who comes through our doors,” he said.

“It’s an exciting time for us as we look to grow our conferencing and events business, as well as look at our external catering options as well.

“We have big plans for our kitchens going forward.

“One of the parts I enjoy most about Phil’s food is his ability to find the right mix of quality vs price. We want to offer the best supporters night, match day and function food possible without people having to break the bank to enjoy it.

“I think Phil’s approach in the kitchen will help us achieve this.”

Supporters night is every Thursday in The Premiers Bar, the bar opens from 4:30pm.

You can also try Phil’s food on match day, by ordering at The Premiers Bar, or booking in for a Pre-Match Function or Boundary Side Barrell.
