Norwood’s future looks in good hands following a successful 2024 SANFL U15 Intrastate Carnival, held in Adelaide over the past three days.

All eight SANFL clubs fielded two teams – a Metro Zone team and Country Zone team – to participate in the Carnival, with each team playing three matches over the three-day event.

Norwood’s Metro and Country Zone teams finished with an impressive combined 6-0 record with victories over West Adelaide, South Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens.

Norwood’s Metro Zone includes players that reside in the club’s Metro region, with Norwood’s local football clubs being Payneham-Norwood Union, Hectorville, Athelstone, Hope Valley, Tea Tree Gully, Houghton and Modbury, while the Country Zone catches the Eyre Peninsula’s football leagues; Port Lincoln, Western Eyre, Eastern Eyre and Great Flinders.

On Day 1, Norwood took on Woodville-West Torrens at Norwood Oval and came away with two victories to kick off the Carnival.

The Redlegs Country Zone team kicked four goals in the first quarter and led by 41 points at half time, before running out comfortable 14.10-94 to 3.3-21 winners.

Cooper Allen kicked six goals for the Redlegs, while Tate Boxer kicked two goals in a best on ground effort.

Norwood’s Metro Zone side started slowly, allowing the Eagles a six-point lead at the first break, before kicking three goals to one in the second quarter to take a 11-point lead into the main break.

The Redlegs held their nerve and booted four goals to three in the second half to run out 9.5-59 to 7.6-48 winners. Joseph Nak was best on ground, while Archah Parisi kicked four goals for the victorious Norwood Metro side.

On Day 2, the Redlegs travelled down to Noarlunga to take on South Adelaide, and drove home with 25 and 37-point wins.

The Panthers Country Zone of the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island were no match for Norwood’s Eyre Peninsula Country Zone after half time, with Norwood turning a four-point lead at the main break into a 7.10-52 to 2.3-15 win. The Redlegs kicked six goals to one in the second half to keep their winning Carnival alive.

Lachlan Peak kicked four goals for Norwood, while Tyler Caufield was best on ground.

It was a similar story in the Metro Zone match-up, with Norwood turning a nine-point half time lead into a run-away 25-point 7.3-45 to 2.8-20 victory to make it four from four across the opening two days of the Carnival.

Norwood went to Richmond Oval to take on the home West Adelaide side on the final Day 3 of the Carnival, and the Redlegs kept their perfect record in tact, with comfortable 61 and 65-point wins over the Bloods.

It was the Redlegs Metro Team’s best performance of the Carnival, kicking five goals in the first quarter to take a 29-point lead into quarter time. The Bloods kicked two goals to one in the second term to reduce the margin to 22 points at the half.

Norwood rallied and kicked seven goals to one after half time to run out 13.4-82 to 3.3-21 winners. Norwood had nine individual goal kickers, including Darcy Thatcher with three.

Lachlan Leach had a good tournament, and was named best on ground in the final match.

Norwood’s Country Zone also finished in style, kicking seven goals to one in the first half to put the Bloods on the ropes. The Redlegs ended up charging away with a 13.8-86 to 3.3-21 win.
