Norwood into SANFLW Development League Grand Final

Norwood has qualified for the SANFLW Development League Grand Final with one minor round game to play.

The Redlegs Development League side claimed a place in the Grand Final (which will be held on April 22) thanks to a dominant 44-point win over West Adelaide at Hisense Stadium on Saturday.

Norwood is undefeated after six rounds in the short seven-round Development League season, topping the table, which has helped them secure the Grand Final berth ahead of their final minor round match against Glenelg next Friday.

Kiana Lee kicked three goals for the Redlegs, while Jazmine Egan was named best on ground in the 8.5-53 to 1.3-9 win.

Grace Whittaker made her SANFLW debut for Norwood today.

Norwood has won its third consecutive SANFLW match, claiming a close six-point victory over West Adelaide at Hisense Stadium on Saturday.

Norwood welcomed three debutants into the SANFLW line up today, with Kaitey Whittaker, Grace Whittaker and Charli Hazelhurst coming into the side.

The Redlegs got off to a good start, booting the first two goals of the contest through Rosette Zerella and Najwa Allen, which proved important as the remainder of the contest went goal for goal.

Allen’s goal at the 13-minute mark of the first term helped the Redlegs to a match-high 10-point lead.

Steph Walker kicked a goal late in the first term to get West Adelaide on the board, but Norwood led 2.0-12 to 1.3-9 at quarter time.

The second term was two goals all, with Nicola Burns and R. Zerella booting Norwood’s majors and helping the Redlegs to a slender two-point lead at half time.

Tall forward K. Whittaker – who has been in strong form in the Development League – kicked her first SANFLW goal at the 90-second mark of the third term, which turned out to be the final goal of the match.

West Adelaide kept in the hunt, booting 0.4 in the second half to Norwood’s 1.2, and challenged the Redlegs right up to the final moments of the game.

Norwood hung on to win 5.3-33 to 3.7-27 win.

Morgan Johnston had 21 disposals, six marks and four tackles, while Jade Halfpenny had 17 disposals. Rosie Boon was important with 30 hitouts and five tackles.
