Norwood’s inaugural season in the SANFL’s U18 Girls competition has got off to a dream start, stringing together back to back victories.

The Redlegs claimed a comfortable win over West Adelaide at Noarlunga’s Magain Stadium on Saturday afternoon, rounding out 4.12-36 to 2.4-16 winners.

Four teams travelled to Noarlunga on Saturday with Round 1 wins, but only two left with their undefeated record in tact – Central District and Norwood.

Norwood defeated Woodville-West Torrens by six points in Round 1, while West Adelaide was coming off a strong 25-point win over Sturt.

The Redlegs had a battle on their hands in the opening half, going into the main break eight points in front, before putting the foot down in the third term.

Norwood could have been further in front at half time, having booted 2.5 to 1.3 in the first half, including 1.4 in the second quarter alone.

They continued to dominate the game in the third quarter, for a frustrating return of 1.5, whilst holding the Bloods scoreless.

At the final break, Norwood had 13 scoring shots to four, but led 3.10-28 to 1.3-9.

The 19-point advantage seemed too far to overcome for the Bloods, but Chelsea Marshall put the win beyond doubt with the sealing goal.

Brooklyn Muller responded not long after with West’s second major for the day, but the Redlegs managed to maneuver the final few minutes without any more damage to the scoreboard.

Ella Anderson was Norwood’s best with 23 disposals and seven clearances, while Amelia Kelly had 25 disposals, and four clearances.

After all the clubs headed to Magain Stadium for Round 2, this Sunday it’s Richmond Oval which plays host to the four U18 Girls matches.

In its biggest test thus far, Norwood takes on the also undefeated Central District in the second game of the day, starting at 12pm.

The Bulldogs have so far defeated South Adelaide by 51 points and Glenelg by 67.
