Norwood’s U16s have broken a five-game losing streak, defeating Glenelg at Stratarama Stadium on Saturday by 13 points to get its season back on track.
The Redlegs travelled to Glenelg to take on an in-form Tigers side who had won four of their last five matches, and were under the pump early in the game.
The home side came sprinting out of the blocks to kick four goals in the first eight minutes, jumping out to a 26-point lead.
Norwood held its nerve and worked its way into the contest, kicking three goals in the second half of the first term through Kalani Fraser, Oliver Wilkins and Archah Parisi. Glenelg kicked two more of its own and the quarter time margin was 21 points.
The Redlegs’ Sachin Tyrrell and Owen Couzner kicked two goals to start the second quarter to make it three goals on the trot and get the margin back under two goals before half time.
The third term was an arm wrestle as both sides kicked two goals apiece, and the game remained a 10-point margin at the final break.
Two quick goals to Couzner and Cooper Allen had Norwood in front of the first time in the match at the 11-minute mark of the final term, and they were able to go on with it with two more goals to Joseph Nak and Parisi to make it four unanswered goals.
George Serocki has been a consistent performer across half back for the Redlegs this season, gathering 28 disposals and nine marks. It’s Serocki’s fourth consecutive game over 25 disposals.
Norwood also welcomed back U16 State players Charlie Best who had 24 disposals and Thomas Gribben with 17 in defence in a best on ground effort.
Another State Squad member was Cooper Allen who kicked three goals on Saturday from 15 touches.

Glenelg’s U18s powered away from Norwood after half time to run out 40-point winners at Stratarama Stadium on Saturday.
The game was on a knife’s edge at the half-way mark, with the Tigers booting a goal just seconds before the half time siren to make it a 14-point game. But, it was all Glenelg as the home side nailed six unanswered goals to take the game away from the Redlegs.
While the Redlegs never lead the game, they certainly were up for the fight, as the game was even for most of the first two quarters.
After eight straight goals in the second and third terms, Norwood fought back in the last quarter with three unanswered goals to Cooper Urban-Burrows, Archie James and Micah Kretschmer.
Glenelg proved to be too strong in the 12.13-85 to 6.9-45 win.
