Norwood’s U18 season got underway on Wednesday night at Norwood Oval, and despite being well and truly in the fight, poor goal kicking cost the Redlegs in a 30-point loss to North Adelaide.
Just one point separated the teams at quarter time, and five points at half time, but the wheels fell off in front of goal for the Redlegs in a 1.7 third term, which was enough for the Roosters to take advantage, kicking 4.1 and jump out to an 18-point three quarter time lead.
North kicked another three goals to one in the final quarter to run out 14.6-90 to 8.12-60 winners.
The stats also showed it was a tight contest, with North winning disposal +5, marks +11, clearances +4 and inside 50m +3, while Norwood won the tackle count +20 and hitouts +19. Each team had 20 scoring shots, but the Roosters were able to find the goals 14 times, compared to Norwood’s eight.
Charlie Best had 24 disposals, eight tackles and eight clearances for Norwood, George Serocki 23 disposals and State squad member Kai Ivins 21 disposals, five clearances and a goal.
Joseph Nak was a big figure in the Redlegs forward line with two goals from seven scoring shots, and five marks, while Oliver Wilkins kicked two goals from his 11 touches.
Norwood has a bit of a wait until its Round 2 game, which will take place at Elizabeth’s X Convenience Oval, taking on Central District on Friday, March 27. The Redlegs U16 season commences on the same night, from 5pm at the same venue.
