Norwood’s U16s fell just short of a win against the second placed Sturt at Norwood Oval on Friday night, with the Redlegs going down by seven points on a tough night for football.

The Redlegs had a rough night in front of the big sticks, kicking 7.14 in a game that they perhaps should have won, having won disposals 277-241, inside 50m 41-35 and tackles 68-64.

It went right down to the wire, with both sides having big periods of momentum.

Sturt started the game well with four goals to one in the first term.

Norwood did well to kick three goals to one in the second quarter, to get back within six points at half time.

Both sides had trouble with conversion in the first half with Sturt leading 5.8-38 to 4.8-32.

The Double Blues and Redlegs both had their chances in the second half, but it was the visitors that were able to make it count, booting 4.1 to Norwood’s 3.6.

Sturt’s four goals came in a hurry, turning a five-point game into a 29-point lead with four majors in quick succession.

Norwood had the last seven scoring shots of the game, but couldn’t make the most of it, kicking 3.4 in the last quarter to go down 9.9-63 to 7.14-56.

George Serocki was Norwood’s best with 26 disposals, while Kai Ivins had 25 touches.

Sturt midfielder Taj Garrett had an incredible day with 40 disposals and four goals.
