Norwood U18s enjoy strong win in Noarlunga

Norwood claimed a second win of the season in the AAMI Talent League U18 Boys on Sunday, comfortably defeating South Adelaide by 36 points at Magain Stadium.

The Redlegs enjoyed a hot start, kicking six goals to two in the opening quarter to set up the 13.12-90 to 8.6-54 win.

Captain Harvey Pearce and Tom Waugh kicked goals early in the second quarter to stretch the margin out to 33 points, before the Panthers hit back.

South kicked four unanswered goals before half time to make it a nine-point lead at the main break.

Neither side could gain any momentum in the third quarter, as South and Norwood combined for seven consecutive behinds. Waugh’s third goal broke the deadlock, and helped the Redlegs to an 18-point buffer.

South ended up booting 1.5 to Norwood’s 2.5 in the third quarter, which meant Norwood led by 15 at the final break.

Three quick Redlegs goals through Seb Zealand, Ollie Easton and Fergus Myall secured the win, as the visitors charged to a six-goal lead.

Will Tanner, Charlie Best and Eddie Sorensen each had 25 disposals for Norwood, while Waugh finished with four goals, Zealand two and Eddie Graham two.

The Redlegs take on North Adelaide on Anzac Day at Norwood Oval in Round 5, a side that also holds a 2-2 record.

Norwood did all it could to chase down a four-goal three quarter time deficit at Magain Stadium on Sunday, but fell three points short in the comeback effort.

South Adelaide managed to hold on to the Round 4 win, 13.3-81 to 11.12-78.

The Redlegs would have been disappointed with their start, allowing the Panthers to kick three quick goals before quarter time to trail by 16 points after a competitive first term.

Norwood hit back in the second term, kicking 5.4 to 4.0, to make it a nine-point margin at half time. South Adelaide was impeccable in front of goal, going into the main break leading 8.0-48 to 6.6-42.

The home side again took the game away from the Redlegs in the third quarter, kicking four goals to one to set a high bar to chase down.

Kicking towards the scoring end in the last term, Norwood did all it could, booting 4.3 to just one goal, but it was enough for the Panthers to hang on to their third straight win of the season.

Meanwhile, Norwood is 1-2 after three matches, and take on the 2-1 North Adelaide at Norwood Oval in an important Anzac Day match.
