It was a game of momentum in the U18s at Norwood Oval on Friday night, but the Redlegs managed to swing the pendulum back in their favour when it counted, securing a five-point win over West Adelaide.
Norwood got off to a flying start, kicking the first four goals of the contest to lead by 26 points 20 minutes into the game.
The Redlegs could only manage four more goals for the remainder of the match, two of which coming late in the last quarter to reclaim the lead through Jyezaiah Cook, before Riley Pugsley sent the Redlegs 12 points up with five minutes to go.
West Adelaide’s Josh Bell kicked the final goal of the game, but the result was already beyond doubt.
After the initial avalanche, the Bloods quickly brought the game back to level pegging with four unanswered goals, and seven of the next eight to lead by seven points half way through the third term.
Norwood steadied and managed to kick the next three goals, with two to Pugsley and one to Cook which was enough to steal victory.
First year U18 Mason Tambe had 28 disposals and 11 marks, while Will Tanner had 27 disposals, and Eddie Sorensen 26 disposals.
Earlier in the evening, Norwood’s U16s were outplayed by West Adelaide in a 54-point defeat.
Kalani Fraser was a standout, with 30 disposals, 11 marks, six tackles, four clearances and a goal.
