Ned Bowman’s fourth quarter hanger was the highlight of the round for the Redlegs U18s, who suffered their third straight loss to start the 2024 season.
Norwood was on the road for the third consecutive week to kick of the U18 season, this time heading to Woodville to take on the Eagles.
The home side recorded a 56-point win, running away from Norwood in a six goal to one final term.
Bowman’s mark took place on the grandstand wing, when Hugo Black roosted a high ball towards a large pack, with Bowman flying from three-deep, and enjoying a second boost from the shoulders of Eagles ruck Griffyn Hansen and Rome Burgoyne.
Bowman had a good day, with two goals from his 12 disposals.
Jake Hill had 24 disposals, two goals and five tackles for Norwood, while Jim Kelly and Jack Michalanney had 22 disposals each.
Norwood was in the game early, with two goals apiece in the first term.
The Eagles enjoyed two patches where they kicked multiple goals in quick succession and Norwood couldn’t stop the run-on. The first of which coming straight after quarter time when Woodville-West Torrens booted four goals in the first 11 minutes of the second term to take a two-point quarter time lead into a 24-point advantage.
Norwood managed to steady late in the second quarter with two goals before half time.
The third term was a close two goals to one tussle, helping the Eagles to a 26-point lead at the final break.
Norwood needed the first goal to give itself a chance, but it was Lachlan Sands from the Eagles who kicked truly to make it a 33-point game, kick starting another four unanswered goals to Woodville-West Torrens to run out 56-point winners.
