Norwood’s already outside hopes of a SANFLW finals berth were officially squashed with Saturday’s 16-point loss to Glenelg at Coopers Stadium.
The Redlegs had to win their last two matches against the Tigers and fellow finals contenders Central District in Rounds 13 and 14 to have any chance of playing in the post season.
However, the bottom of the ladder Tigers crashed the party with an upset 7.4-46 to 4.6-30 win.
Scores were level at quarter time (1.2-8) and half time (3.2-20) but the Tigers put their foot down in the third term with three goals to none to take the game away.
Norwood could manage just one goal in the second half, through Kiana Lee in the last five minutes of the match, as Glenelg dominated the game.
15-year-old Lani Cocks was again a standout in her second match with 26 disposals and a goal, while Jade Halfpenny had 28 touches and 10 clearances in a best on ground effort.
While the Glenelg loss was tough to take, Norwood’s season ended on Saturday either way when Sturt upset the top of the table Eagles, making a finals spot impossible regardless of the Redlegs result.
Norwood’s SANFLW season draws to a close this Saturday at X Convenience Oval, taking on the fifth placed Central District from 12pm. The Bulldogs will have it all to play for, with a win potentially leaping them into finals contention.
