NORWOOD has today announced midfielder Matthew Nunn as the 58th Captain of the Norwood Football Club.
The 23-year-old will inherit the captaincy from 2014 premiership player Matthew Panos, who is recovering from an ACL injury sustained in August last year.
The ball magnet and Norwood junior has been a consistent player for the Redlegs over several years, which has seen him rise as one of the most dominant midfielders in the SANFL.
Nunn has displayed several all-round performances, which highlights his ability to break from stoppage, pressure the opposition and hit the scoreboard.
The hard midfielder is a popular member of the playing group and leads by example both on and off field culminating with being awarded both the Woods Medal and Coaches Team Acts Awards in 2020.
Senior Coach of the Norwood Football Club Jade Rawlings could not speak highly enough of Nunn, who has been identified as the man to lead the Redlegs in 2021.
“Congratulations to Matthew being named as our captain,” Rawlings said.
“A lot of different factors went into getting to this decision; observing behaviour, impact within the group, having an influence and being able to perform on game day.
“All things considered, Matty Nunn emerged as our leading contender to be our Captain in 2021.
“I love what he brings to the table as a player and person, but he absolutely loves this club.
“To be able to start a new way of doing things at Norwood and have a young, energetic and enthusiastic captain, like Matty is really exciting and a great endorsement of him and how he has been able to conduct himself over this period since starting the pre-season.
“It goes without saying that everyone here is thrilled for Matty and we will do all we can to support him in this prestigious role.”
